OpenAI Can Rewrite Your Ad and Change Where It Sends People. This Week That Becomes the Default.

ChatGPT Ads switches on automatic rewrites, translations and destination changes in days. Coaches running cold traffic have until Thursday to decide.

If you are buying ads inside ChatGPT, a machine is about to get editing rights over your offer.

OpenAI told advertisers on October 20, 2026 that it will switch on "creative enhancements" for their new and existing self-serve ChatGPT campaigns at the end of the month, allowing the system to rewrite headlines and descriptions, resize images, change destination URLs and translate ad text, and to run those versions without the advertiser approving each one.

Read that last part again. In OpenAI's own wording, the ads "can run automatically without requiring you to review or approve each version."

The company frames it as a workload win: enhancements are meant to make ads more relevant to the conversation, "helping improve performance, while reducing the work of creating multiple versions," the email says.

The destination URL is the part that should scare you

Rewritten headlines are survivable. Most coaches test five variations of the same promise anyway.

The destination change is different. OpenAI says it uses existing ad and landing-page content to adapt how the message is expressed, and that enhancements can include new or updated headlines and descriptions, image resizing, destination-URL optimization, and translation into other languages.

So if you are running cold traffic to a webinar registration page, the system can decide another page on your site converts better and send the click there instead. Your sales page. Your free guide. Your "work with me" page. The funnel you spent three weeks building is now a suggestion.

And for anyone selling a high-ticket program with a human closer at the end of the line, that reroute is the whole business. One PPC practitioner writing about the change argued that above $3,000, with a phone team taking leads, he would keep enhancements off until he could prove the rewrites do not move clicks off the pages that close — his own rule of thumb, not OpenAI guidance.

There is also a liability question coaches in claim-heavy niches should sit with. One analysis of the new terms notes that under OpenAI's Ad Tools Terms, the advertiser stays responsible for every AI-made version, including its claims about prices and results. Income claims written by a machine, in your name.

Nobody agrees on the date, including OpenAI

This is the genuinely strange part.

The email says: "Starting Friday, October 30, 2026, we'll enable creative enhancements for your new and existing self-serve campaigns." Coverage of the help page has cited Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026. And one tracker reports the help page now says "Thursday, October 31" — which is a Saturday.

Because OpenAI's own messages disagree on the start date, anyone who wants to opt out should do it before Thursday 29 October 2026.

That is 48 hours from today.

Where the toggle is

The control sits in the Settings section of Ads Manager, which still carries a "Beta" label. Open Ads Manager, go to "Manage settings," and opt out at the account level.

One trap: OpenAI says existing account and campaign-level opt-outs will be preserved, and "campaign-specific settings will take priority over account defaults." Switching it off at the account level does not clean up a campaign where someone already turned it on.

Then there is the measurement problem. OpenAI offers no preview of every variation and says overall metrics alone do not establish the effect of enhancements. You will see a cost per lead. You will not see which version of your promise produced it.

Why this is landing on so many desks

This is not a niche beta anymore. OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Ads to 26 more countries on October 21, bringing it to 89 markets, and said more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since launch. That figure is cumulative — it counts anyone who ran a single test and stopped. The ad business hit an annualised $1bn in August.

The coaches most likely to leave the setting on are the ones selling something simple at a low price into a lot of languages. The coaches who should go turn it off are the ones whose whole funnel depends on the click landing exactly where they put it.
