Instagram Is Finally Paying for Carousels, Everyone Says. Instagram's Own Rules Page Says "Test."
The Bonuses news spread through coaching Instagram in a week. The detail that got lost: invitations go to selected creators, and most people won't get one.

Instagram pays for carousels now. That's the version of the news that reached most coaches this week, and it's close enough to true to be expensive.
The widely repeated version goes like this: Instagram is rolling out a Bonuses program that lets eligible creators earn money directly from photo and carousel posts, expanding monetization beyond video formats, with payouts made twice a month based on how the content performs. Metricool's update log carries the same framing — payouts issued twice a month based on how well each post performs.
Now the less exciting sentence. NapoleonCat's Instagram feature tracker, updated for October 2026, files it under something narrower: Instagram is testing bonuses for photo and carousel posts. Bonuses are being tested, invitations go to selected creators only, cohorts are invited from time to time, and not every eligible creator gets picked.
Why this one landed so hard
The carousel is the house format of coaching Instagram. The ten-slide framework, the swipeable client story, the "save this" checklist. A payout attached to the format you were already making is the rare platform update that genuinely changes what a content calendar is worth.
Which is exactly why the word "test" matters. Being eligible and being invited are two different states, and only one of them pays.
The two-minute check before you change anything
There is no application. You need a professional account, then: profile, Professional dashboard, settings icon, Bonuses. Manychat's write-up is blunt about what you'll find: "you will not see Bonuses if Meta hasn't invited you." Access, eligibility terms and payouts are controlled by Instagram, and the dashboard is where creators find out whether an opportunity is open to them.
That's the whole process. Two minutes, and you know.
The fine print that would actually change how you post
If you are in, the mechanics are more specific than the headlines suggest. Qualifying for the photo and carousel bonus requires hitting a minimum number of views per month, three months running, with the minimum depending on where you are. Each post keeps earning for up to 28 days after you share it, only your most recent 150 posts earn during each two-week bonus period, posts that include music are eligible, a video inside a carousel earns the post bonus too — and branded content does not earn.
That last clause deserves a pause. The sponsored carousel, the brand collab, the paid partnership post: those sit outside the bonus. For coaches who have been building toward sponsorship income, the two revenue lines don't stack.
The baseline requirements are ordinary. You need to be 18 or older with a professional account, creating and sharing original content, and accounts at 1,000+ followers sit in the tier where bonuses for photo and carousel posts appear alongside affiliate programs and Creator Marketplace.
Here's the quiet risk in all of this. A carousel built to maximise views and a carousel built to produce a discovery call are not the same carousel. One of them has been paying coaches for years.
